Civil servants in Perlis have been told to work to save fuel following the fuel price hike.

Making the call in Kangar today, Menteri Besar Shahidan Kassim said that the people might find it odd at first to see civil servants, especially the directors and department heads, cycling to work but they would get used to it if it became a daily routine.

"I made a similar suggestion during the economic slowdown in 1997 and I'm suggesting it again to save fuel," he was quoted by Bernama as saying today.

Shahidan said that cycling to work had been practised for a long time in Holland and it involved not only the common people and government servants but also the national leaders.
