Mkini photog, CEO win at the MPI-Petronas Journalism Awards 2018
Malaysiakini photographer Muhammad Azneal Ishak won the consolation prize in the Best Photo Essay category at the MPI-Petronas Malaysian Journalism Awards 2018 this evening.
The 27-year-old Azneal bagged the prize with a series of photos he took during a humanitarian mission to Palu, Indonesia, on Oct 28 last year.

The 27-year-old Azneal bagged the prize with a series of photos he took during a humanitarian mission to Palu, Indonesia, on Oct 28 last year.
The photo series was entitled "Searching for new life in Palu." He took home RM1,000 in cash and a certificate.
"Thank you to my bosses and colleagues at Malaysiakini who were so supportive, as well as to the NGOs @myhopehero and @move that gave me the chance to join the humanitarian mission to Palu," said Azneal when met at the awards' venue, the Berjaya Times Square Hotel, in Kuala Lumpur.
Meanwhile, Malaysiakini CEO Premesh Chandran won a Special Jury Award, bringing home RM5,000, a trophy and a certificate. The award for outstanding contribution to the industry was also won by Astro Awani CEO Suhaimi Sulaiman.
Education Minister Maszlee Malik presented the Special Jury Awards.
The coveted Kajai Award went to Kosmo journalists Ahmad Mustakim Zulkifli and Luqman Ridhwan Mohamed Nor for their articles Selangor Diancam Pencemaran Kilang Plastik, Penguatkuasaan Lemah Punca Aktiviti Sukar Dikekang, and Polemik Lambakan Sisa Plastik Beracun.
Some 200 entries from the electronic and print media were submitted for the MPI-Petronas Malaysian Journalism Awards this year across 16 categories.
