SEMENYIH POLLS | Rahmad Musa, who is an aide to the BN candidate for the Semenyih by-election Zakaria Hanafi, was shocked to see his car splashed with paint last night.
The incident happened outside the BN operations centre at the Kampung Rinching Hulu polling district.
"I brought the candidate (in the car) to meet the party machinery at 10pm last night," Rahmad told Malaysiakini.
"We saw another car making a U-turn near the tent (outside the operations centre) but we did not suspect anything was amiss," he added.
The Kampung Sesapan Batu Rembau Umno branch chief said the front bonnet and windscreen of his Mercedes Benz were splashed with the paint.
"I don't know who did this. I don't know if (the perpetrator) did this to me personally or the candidate," he added.
Rahmad said he was saddened by the incident as it had been a positive campaign so far.
“We have not condemned other candidates (in the ongoing campaign). We only brought up what our candidate can offer," he added.
The 51-year-old former teacher said he lodged reports over the matter with both the Semenyih police station and Kajang district police headquarters.
Malaysiakini has attempted to contact Kajang OCPD Ahmad Dzaffir Mohd Yussof for comment.
BN is fielding Zakaria against Harapan's Bersatu candidate Muhammad Aiman Zainali in the March 2 contest.
PSM’s Nik Aziz Afiq Abdul and independent Kuan Chee Heng would also be contesting.
The by-election was triggered by the death of the incumbent and Aiman’s father-in-law, Bakhtiar Mohd Nor, from a heart attack on Jan 11.
In the 14th general election, the late Bakhtiar secured an 8,964-vote majority in a four-cornered fight against Umno (14,464), PAS (6,966) and PSM (1,293).
