The Sarawak Police Constabulary has been beefed up with another 186 new personnel, 52 of them women.

State Police Commissioner Datuk Talib Jamal said they had been distributed among all the police districts statewide.

"However we have given more personnel to those bigger places like Kuching, Sibu, Miri, Kota Samarahan and Bintulu for instance where the crime cases are higher," he told a press conference in Sibu today.

"For the women constables, each district will get at least two as required by the law where certain cases involving the women will be handled by them under a woman inspector," he was quoted by Bernama as saying

Talib said for Sibu, 32 new constables and six inspectors had been deployed.

He said in terms of logistics too, the state would soon receive 60 new vehicles.

"Sarawak is a very big state. We certainly need more vehicles to effectively conduct security patrolling in its major towns and cities," the police chief added.
