When the Cameron Highlands by-election polling day was set for Jan 26, Syazleen Anisa Misria was in panic and despair as she learnt that the polling centre chosen was the same venue she had booked for her wedding on the same day.

However, after her post on the Election Commission (EC) Facebook lamenting this matter went viral on social media, the commission contacted her privately and they resolved the matter, with the wedding being brought forward by one week.

Today, the hall at SMK Sultan Ahmad Shah was decked out in white wedding decorations as Syazleen, dressed in a resplendent blue dress, and her husband, celebrate their wedding together with their friends and family.

“At first I was shocked when the EC announced a by-election here on Jan 26 and I expected the (wedding) ceremony to be disrupted.

“But after discussing with the EC, they gave us the greenlight (to go ahead with the wedding) one week earlier.

“It has made my work easier even though there were obstacles, but we found a solution and our ceremony is going well and attended by our friends from all over the country,” said the bride’s father Norzihan Rijaludin to reporters at the wedding today.

DAP’s candidate M Manogaran and Kuantan MP Fuziah Salleh also briefly attended the ceremony before leaving for other campaigning events.

The ceremony saw over 100 people in attendance, and also featured dance performances.

The bride and groom spent most of their time on the wedding dais taking pictures with their friends and family.
