The Palace of Justice has drafted a code of ethics, binding the magistrates, session judges and registrars, who are considered judicial officers, under the Judicial and Legal Service Commission.
Among the values that it wants to inculcate is the integrity and impartiality of the judiciary, and that the officers are to perform their judicial duties fairly and efficiently.
Besides this, they are to avoid impropriety and the appearance of impropriety in all judicial activities.

When officiating the Legal Year last Friday, Chief Justice Richard Malanjum had announced the release of the code of ethics for judicial officers.
Judges at the High Court, Court of Appeal and Federal Court have their own individual Judges' Code of Ethics.
The statement from the judiciary also announced that to ensure integrity, fairness and transparency, it also formed channels for the public to complain.
