Garuda Indonesia will ask Malaysia Airlines to reduce its thrice-daily flights to Jakarta, an airline official said today.

Garuda spokesman Pudjobroto confirmed a report that the flag carrier would ask MAS to consider scrapping one of the daily flights.

"This request should be seen in the context of it benefiting both airlines under the code-share cooperation," Pudjobroto said.

A code-share agreement allows the two airlines to sell space on each other's flights carrying both airlines' flight codes.

Garuda operates daily flights between Kuala Lumpur and Jakarta using a Boeing 737-400 while MAS flies three times a day to Jakarta with bigger aircraft, such as the Airbus A330.
