Starting Jan 1 next year, Kelantan Umno will concentrate on providing outstanding service to the people and reduce internal politicking.

It's chief Annuar Musa said such an approach was necessary to fulfil the election pledges made to the people in an effort to bring about a change in the state.

"The victory of the Barisan Nasional (BN) in the recent Pengkalan Pasir by-election is a wake-up call to rectify weaknesses and not to pressure the PAS-led Kelantan government," he was quoted as saying by Bernama.

Annuar also said that matters pertaining to the welfare of villagers would be handled by the existing government departments and agencies while the party concentrated on policies.

"The party will only formulate policies; their implementation will be undertaken in a transparent manner by the government departments and agencies. Those who are eligible will get the assistance," he added.

Election secretariat

He said this approach was in accordance with the policy of the BN for the development of the people and the PAS-ruled state.

"Pengkalan Pasir received much financial allocation after the by-election victory and if the money is not managed well there will be adverse effects in the next election," he said.

Annuar also said that an election operations secretariat would be set up in Kelantan, to be headed by former Kelantan Umno Liaison Secretary Tuan Hashim Tuan Yaakob for systematic coordination of election work.

"All the 22 BN elected representatives cannot be weekend politicians because preparations for the next election must begin now by providing outstanding service to the people," he added.

PAS is ruling the state with a single seat majority. Following the Pengkalan Pasir by-election, BN had 22 seats while PAS 23.
