PAS' success in managing the economy of Kelantan and the integrity of its administration should be a model at the federal level, said PAS Ulama wing chief Mahfodz Mohamed today.

In saying this at the PAS muktamar in Kuala Terengganu, he also took a jab at the reintroduction of sales and services tax by Pakatan Harapan which he said was no different from BN's goods and services tax.

Mahfodz said Malaysia was not a country that faced problems generating revenue with the federal government's income increasing by RM20 billion every year.

The problem, he said, was caused by the government's failure to manage expenditure and adopt Islamic approaches in its administration.

"PAS is not speaking about this empty-handed. The PAS government in Kelantan has achieved multiple successes. It managed to increase revenue by RM566 million last year compared to RM497 million in 2016.

"It had a surplus budget of RM38.76m in 2017 compared to a deficit budget of RM33.47 million in 2016. This is a record which proves PAS' success in administrating Kelantan.

"More so, for the 27 years PAS governed Kelantan, the state continues to maintain its zero corruption record whereby all state leaders and its officials are free from any charges and convictions by the MACC.

"This is the model that PAS has that should be adopted at the federal level," he said in his policy speech.

Tax burden

Mahfodz added the economic problems faced by the federal administration today happened because the concept of “taqwa” was not adopted.

He told the delegates that the SST reintroduced by the Harapan government will have the same effects as the GST as it was the rakyat who continued to carry the burden of paying taxes.

This, Mahfodz said, was different from what PAS was offering the rakyat which was an Islamic tax system that took from the rich people and re-distributed it to those in need.
