SERI SETIA POLLS | Pakatan Harapan's Halimey Abu Bakar has won the Seri Setia seat for Pakatan Harapan with a 4,027-vote majority.

Halimey received 13,725 votes, beating out PAS' Dr Halimah Ali with 9,698.

With BN's support, PAS' vote share had increased 31 percent, from 10.39 percent in the May 9 polls to 41.4 percent in this by-election.

This is more than PAS and BN's combined vote share of 32.89 percent during GE14.

Harapan's vote share, meanwhile, decreased from the 66.62 percent won by late PKR incumbent Shaharuddin Badaruddin to 58.6 percent.

Shaharuddin had won the seat with a 19,372-vote majority in a four-cornered fight against BN's Yusoff M Haniff, PAS' Mohd Ghazali Daud and independent candidate S Vigneswaran.

Voter turnout for today's by-election was just 44.1 percent, which Halimey attributed to the long weekend and bad weather.

"I was expecting the turnout to be 60 percent. Eventually, the turnout was only 44 percent. 

"We were worried because of the long holiday. It really scared us, the long holiday and the bad weather," he said in a press conference at the MBPJ Civic Hall in Petaling Jaya. 

Halimey was flanked by his mother Khalijah Md Yusof and wife Suhaty Bakri. 

Speaking to Malaysiakini later, Halimey thanked his rival Halimah for coming to Seri Setia and wished her success in the future.

"I would like to thank her for coming to Seri Setia and insya Allah, I pray for her success in the future. And alhamdulillah, we had the chance to know each other," he said.
