It was a smooth polling process in the Pengkalan Pasir state constituency by-election with 27.2 percent or 5,015 out of 18,216 voters casting their ballots as at 11 am today.

A total of 195 people had earlier voted by post, according to a Bernama report.

Election officer Abdul Halim Ahmad said voter turnout was expected to exceed 50 per cent as at 3.30pm, thanks to good weather conditions although the Meteorological Department had predicted heavy rains for the next three days beginning today in the east coast states.

The last general election in 2004 saw 77.64 percent voter turnout.

All 10 polling centres were opened since 8am today and will be closed at 5 pm today. Following this, vote counting process will take place at the tallying centre at SMK Sultan Ibrahim Satu (1).
