PKR lawmaker Abdullah Sani Abdul Hamid has penned a letter to Prime Minister Dr Mahathir Mohamad apologising for his allegation of a plot against Anwar Ibrahim.

Speaking to reporters at his office in Klang this morning, he said the letter was sent to Mahathir's office at about 9.40am.

The Kapar MP said he decided to write the letter following a telephone conversation with Anwar which lasted about 40 minutes.

“I was given advice, an explanation and orders from Anwar... I apologise for going overboard with my remarks. I hope my concern over the attempts to derail the transition of power is not true,” he added.

Previously, Abdullah had accused Mahathir and his trusted advisor Daim Zainuddin of conspiring to prevent Anwar from becoming the next prime minister.

He also claimed that the pair was colluding with PKR deputy president Azmin Ali.

Abdullah is aligned to former Pandan MP Rafizi Ramli, who is contesting against Azmin for the number two post in the upcoming party polls.

Yesterday, Anwar said he advised Abdullah to correct his allegation and stressed that his relationship with Mahathir is not strained.

Meanwhile, Abdullah warned those not involved in the transition of power agreement to avoid meddling in the issue.

“Those on the outside and have nothing to do with (Pakatan) Harapan, do not interfere or attempt to derail this transition of power,” he added, without mentioning names.

It is believed that Abdullah's warning was directed to former finance minister and Mahathir's confidante Daim, among others.

"That is why in my argument, I pointed out that Tun Daim himself said in Singapore on May 15 that this transition of power is a stupid thing. He said it, and he asked what is the need to rush (for the transition to take place) in two years' time.

"This is not in the context of the consensus," he told the press conference today.

In his apology letter, Abdullah also mentioned that he believed that the strengthening of Harapan parties was an agenda that must be protected and championed. 

Prior to the May 9 general election, Harapan parties agreed that Mahathir would helm the nation for two years before passing the baton to Anwar.

However, Mahathir has indicated that he might continue as prime minister beyond the two years.
