Police abuse: Transsexual identifies three cops

A transsexual, who claimed that several policemen from the Ipoh district headquarters in Perak had forced her to strip before making lewd remarks, managed to identify three of the alleged perpetrators.

However, Mumtaz, who underwent a sex change operation six years ago, said she could not identify the policeman who had posed obscene questions about her private part.
"I was asked to identify them from about 30 police officers," she added when contacted today.
Mumtaz was accompanied by her partner A Ravichandran during the five-hour identification process at the district headquarters last Friday.
She said the investigating officer told her that the police will keep her posted on the development of the investigations.
Investigations underway
Ipoh district police chief Che Sab Hanafiah confirmed that Mumtaz was asked to identify the policemen involved in the alleged incident.
"It's part of the investigation. Once the investigation is completed, we will submit a report to the Perak deputy public prosecutor (DPP)," he said when contacted later.
He said they are in the midst of submitting the report and will do it 'as soon as possible'.
Asked if action would be taken against the errant personnel, he replied that the matter was still under investigation.
"All are still under investigation [...] I cannot disclose to you," he said, adding that the police will have to wait for a directive from the DPP's office.
Mumtaz's plight was highlighted in an exclusive malaysiakini report recently. The 24-year-old transsexual had been arrested on Oct 16 after being suspected of being involved in prostitution.
During her detention, she was allegedly asked to strip to prove her claim that she had underwent a sex change surgery.
Her request to do so in front of female police officers was rejected on the grounds that the gender classification on her identity card still read 'male'.
On Nov 7, Mumtaz lodged a report with the Bukit Aman federal police headquarters disciplinary department.
She then lodged another police report in Kuala Lumpur on Nov 19 after relating her ordeal at a press conference called by DAP parliamentarian Teresa Kok.
