The Fire and Rescue Department will leave it to the police to handle the case involving the late Cradle Fund Sdn Bhd chief executive officer Nazrin Hassan.

A highly-ranked source with the department said their findings into Nazrin's death has been submitted to the police and the case is under police investigation.

The source was responding to allegations by Nazrin's wife Samirah Muzaffar earlier today that she and her family are being kept in the dark over the progress of the investigation, and that the fire department had refused to give her a copy of their report as it is a high-profile case.

The source told Malaysiakini that he was dumbfounded by Samirah's claims.

"(Prior to this) We have written to her officially to answer on matters which she asked. I think it's good enough for us to tell her what is our action at the moment.

"She should not sensationalise the issue," he said.

According to him further, the fire department had carried thorough investigation into the fire incident which killed Nazrin, involving experts in the department, from the scientific angle, as well as using the canine unit.

However, further details cannot be furnished so as to not jeopardise police investigations, he added.

"Let's just wait for the police to investigate the matter."

Nazrin had died in a fire at his residence in Petaling Jaya, on June 14.

Initially, it was concluded that he had died of complications from injuries from an explosion of a mobile phone being charged nearby.

However, police last week, reclassified the case as murder, based on the fire department's report, as well as the post-mortem results.
