The Kelantan state assembly was left in stitches today after a BN assemblyperson asked if the fourth or seventh prime minister was better.

"The seventh prime minister is fated to fix mistakes by the fourth prime minister.

"In the menteri besar's view between the fourth and seventh prime minister, who is right, who is wrong? Who is good and who is useless?" Md Alwi Che Ahmad (BN-Kok Lanas) asked in reference to Prime Minister Dr Mahathir Mohamad.

Kelantan Menteri Besar Ahmad Yaakob then immediately replied: "The one who asked knows better than me."

Ahmad's reply left assemblypersons in a fit of laughter.

Since assuming office after May 9, Mahathir has taken a more magnanimous approach to PAS-led Kelantan compared to his first run as prime minister.

This includes promising that Kelantan would receive oil royalties, a demand they have made for decades.

Earlier, Ahmad responded to a question from Mohd Adnan Kechik (BN-Bukit Bunga) on the relationship between the state and federal governments.

He expressed optimism that ties are improving, and that he had met with Mahathir to ensure that Kelantan's rights are upheld.

"God willing the ties are improving," he said.
