Deputy Prime Minister Dr Wan Azizah Wan Ismail said today she will keep her position as Pakatan Harapan president although she will not be defending her post as PKR president in the coming party elections.

She said she would continue as Harapan president without any position in PKR as she still has a role to play in the ruling coalition.

"No problem, because as far as my position in Harapan is concerned, it will be continued," she said.

She also said PKR had yet to decide whether to do away with the party's post of de facto leader, which has been held by Anwar Ibrahim since 2007.

“We have yet to discuss it. We will inform when we make a decision," she said.

However, PKR deputy president Azmin Ali said he would leave it to party members to decide whether the post of de facto leader should be maintained.

"In 2007, we decided to create the post of de facto leader during the 2007 party congress because Anwar could not hold any party post.

"Now, both Anwar and Wan Azizah can hold any party post, so let us go back to the (original) structure of the party," the economic affairs minister told reporters at the Parliament lobby.

The party should discuss the matter, he said.

The need to do away with the de facto leader's post was brought up after Wan Azizah said she would give way for her husband to contest the president's post in the coming party leadership elections.

Azmin opined that Wan Azizah, being the senior leader and deputy premier, should continue to play an important role after stepping down as party president.

"We want her to be active in the party," he added.
