Economic Affairs Minister Mohamed Azmin Ali has brushed off the allegation that he and his associates have over RM300 million stashed overseas.

Speaking to the press at an Aidilfitri open house event today, the former Selangor menteri besar described the accusation as gutter politics.

He added that he if he possessed that much money, he would no longer need to be a politician.

"I don't entertain gutter politics.

"If I were to have over RM300 million, I would no longer be Keadilan (PKR), right?" he said.

Ever since it took over Selangor in 2009, he said, Pakatan Rakyat and its current iteration Pakatan Harapan had made it standard practice to declare their assets.

He was referring to the accusation levelled by blogger 'Toyol of Selangor', who claimed to have worked for Azmin before.

The blogger had claimed in a June 18 posting that Azmin and his wife Shamsidar Taharin have hundreds of millions of ringgit stashed in multiple bank accounts overseas.

Azmin, the blogger alleged, has 54 accounts, Shamsida 47, her brother Johan 48, and a proxy Muhammad Gaddafi Kamal 54 accounts in 11 countries.

'Lodge a report'

Azmin urged the perpetrator behind allegation to lodge a report with the authorities.

"Do not just make baseless accusations and allegations, this should not happen in this day and age.

"Any individual who has strong evidence can bring their case to the authorities, so an investigation can be carried out.

"For me, this is a malicious attempt to tarnish my reputation," he said.

When asked if he is willing to be probed, he said such accusations were not new to him.

Meanwhile, Shamsida, who accompanied Azmin to the open house, also denied having several dozen accounts overseas.

"I don't know about it, I don't have (such accounts)," she said.
