Gerakan will not issue any more statements or comments on the teaching of Science and Mathematics in English in Chinese primary schools, its secretary-general Chia Kwang Chye said today.

"There won't be anymore comments on this issue from Gerakan. We'll discuss it internally," he was quoted by Bernama as saying.

Chia's comments comes after Prime Minister Abdullah Ahmad Badawi on Friday asked all parties to stop debating over the issue as it could lead to more confusion.

Abdullah said the issue should not be prolonged and debated as the more it was discussed, the more likely for incorrect information to be reported on the matter.
The prime minister also said the government would not change its policy of teaching Science and Mathematics in English and noted that Gerakan deputy president Dr Koh Tsu Koon's comments on the matter did not dispute the use of English but only questioned how long the policy would be in place.
