De facto Umno president Ahmad Zahid Hamidi has denied meeting with PKR de facto leader Anwar Ibrahim yesterday.
"At the time that the media alleged (I was meeting Anwar), I was performing a solat hajat (intercessory prayer) at home," Zahid said at a press conference in the Umno headquarters today.
Yesterday, there were claims that Zahid had met Anwar at the Cheras rehabilitation hospital where the latter is being held.
The meeting was allegedly to discuss the possibility of Zahid defecting to Pakatan Harapan.
Zahid and Anwar have a close friendship.
In September 1998, Zahid - then the Umno Youth chief - was detained under the Internal Security Act (ISA) for three weeks after Anwar was sacked as deputy prime minister.
Zahid was a staunch Anwar supporter at the time, and was at loggerheads with then Umno president Dr Mahathir Mohamad.
