Police have denied raiding a luxury apartment linked to former premier Najib Abdul Razak.

Kuala Lumpur police chief Mazlan Lazim told Bernama that police had only checked CCTV footage at the apartment.

"Police had gone to the location to conduct a thorough investigation by reviewing the CCTV footage, not by conducting a raid.

"The report by Reuters and other portals are false and untrue," he was quoted as saying.

Reuters yesterday quoted two senior police officers as saying that the apartment allegedly owned by Najib's relatives were raided to look for sensitive documents the new government fears may be taken out of the country.

Twenty officers and a dozen others in plainclothes were said to have taken part in the swoop, following a police report that a government vehicle had delivered dozens of boxes of designer handbags and other items to the apartment for Najib’s wife, Rosmah Mansor.

Mazlan said he would be lodging a report against the false news of the raid.
