The ever-evolving dynamics in Sabah BN has now resulted in the departure of yet another component party.

Last night, Parti Bersatu Rakyat Sabah (PBRS) announced that it has left the coalition and hoped to be part of Pakatan Harapan.

In total, members from three parties – PBRS, United Pasokmomogun Kadazandusun Murut Organisation (Upko), and the Liberal Democratic Party (LDP) - have left the BN coalition.

PBRS president Joseph Kurup said the party had decided to leave Sabah BN because they feel they would not have been able to serve their constituents if they remained with the coalition.

He said that their constituents - Pensiangan and Sook - were among the most disadvantaged in the states.

"Under these circumstances, PBRS decided to review its position within the BN coalition, and has applied to become a part of the Harapan coalition," he said, according to Malay Mail Online.

Kurup also claimed that he has spoken with Harapan's top leadership and expressed confidence that PBRS would be welcomed.

Fast changing situation

The political situation has been changing rapidly since the May 9 elections.

The elections saw Sabah BN winning 29 seats, just two short of forming a government with a simple majority.

After two elected lawmakers from Star join Sabah BN, with the coalition having 31 seats in the 60-seat assembly, Musa Aman was sworn in as chief minister.

However, Warisan president Mohd Shafie Apdal claimed that he and his allies now commanded the majority in the state assembly and will be seeking to form the state government.

It claimed to have 34 seats after six assemblypersons defected from BN. Four of the six are from Umno, while the other two are from Upko.

Should Harapan accept PBRS in its coalition, it means that Warisan and its allies will now have 36 state seats.

LDP failed to win any seat in the May 9 elections, while Upko bagged five, but so far only two of its elected state representatives have reportedly defected.

The number of lawmakers aligned to each faction are changing daily.
