Analyst: BN’s Mas Gading candidate Nogeh will win hands down
The BN candidate for the Mas Gading parliamentary seat Anthony Nogeh Gumbek will win hands down in GE14.
The BN candidate for the Mas Gading parliamentary seat Anthony Nogeh Gumbek will win hands down in GE14.
This confident prophecy comes from Sarawak political analyst Peter Minos.
Speaking to Malaysiakini today Peter said, not only will Nogeh win hands down but with a better majority than in the 2013 general election, saying: “Nogeh works and campaigns very hard. He is moving non-stop and is energetic.
“He has several advantages over his DAP opponent Modi Bimol because he identifies himself ‘right at the source’ with the people in Bau and Lundu, the major districts under the constituency.”
According to Peter, one of the ways Nogeh relates with the people in the rural districts of Bau and Lundu is with his Musang King durian and pineapple plantation projects which he had initiated.
“The rural voters who are largely farmers in these areas value such ‘rustic attractions’ which are reminiscent of their way of life,” said Peter.
Peter also pointed out Nogeh’s standing as a former government officer and deputy general manager of Salcra will put him in good stead with the people and this will earn him the victor’s trophy in next week’s election.
Peter also tagged Nogeh as a “pro-active” federal deputy minister of agriculture who is very much in touch with the voters at his bastion.
Taking a swipe at the DAP candidate facing off with Nogeh, Peter said, Modi is doing well too, but the “sore point” is that he is a candidate of the peninsula-based DAP which is “tak laku” (not accepted in Mas Gading.
“The sentiment in the state and the people here now is a united and strong Sarawak BN, which will stay at arm’s length in all dealings with KL (Kuala Lumpur).
“This is a ‘plus’ mood’ for Nogeh.” he added.
Peter also said all BN candidates are certainly facing some local and constituency issues and problems in the state, but nothing is “so fatal”, everything can be resolved and is manageable.
He added another plus point for Nogeh was that he was popular with the youths and thus will get the support of the younger voter base as well.
Nogeh is the Mas Gading MP from the Progressive Democratic Party (PDP). He graduated with a Bachelor of Laws (Hons) from the University of London and was called to the Bar-at-Law (Gray’s Inn) in 1981.
