The sole Indian candidate from PAS Selangor, M Rajan (above), hopes he is elected in the coming general election to allow him to improve the welfare of the people of Sentosa which falls under the Kota Raja parliamentary constituency.

Adopting the tagline "Sentosa Sejahtera" Rajan said most of the residents in the area were poor and hence needed someone to look after their welfare.

Rajan said this was why he supported PAS as it looked after the welfare of the people regardless of race, adding that his main task would be to upgrade the area's infrastructure.

“This includes installing street lights, building more playgrounds and having a better collection service for domestic rubbish,” he said.

Rajan was met at a petrol station in Sentosa handing out RM5 petrol vouchers to motorcyclists.

The PAS candidate revealed give-away was funded by donations from wellwishers and the aim was to help cushion the cost of fuel prices for the lower-income group.

Rajan also said he would try to ensure that the state would help pay for students' Parents and Teacher Association (PTA) fees.

"It is already May and I know some parents are having a hard time paying up.

“So in line with PAS caring for the welfare of the people, we will try to assist by paying their PTA fees," he said, adding that the party hopes to introduce takaful insurance protection for families plus a RM200 medical check-up voucher for youths and the elderly if the party comes to power.

Rajan, who is Selangor PAS Supporters Club director, is in a five-way contest against G Gunarajah from Pakatan Harapan, R Subramaniam from BN, M Telaiamblam from PRM and independent A Sundarajoo.

Sentosa has 51,444 voters comprising Indians at 43 percent, 38 percent Chinese, 17 percent Malays and one percent other races. Sentosa is the new name for Kota Alam Shah. In 2013, Kota Alam Shah was won by DAP.
