GE14 | PAS president Abdul Hadi Awang has questioned the source of Pakatan Harapan's funds for the coming general election.

As for PAS, he said the Islamist party is funded by the people.

“If people ask where the contribution (for PAS) comes from? From the people. RM90 million from the people.

“PAS has one million members... If each PAS member gives one ringgit, it is one million. There are PAS members who are successful entrepreneurs and so forth.

“There are those who give thousands of ringgit. Don't think it is odd for PAS to get (huge funds), RM90 million is a small sum,” he was quoted as saying by Harakah Online.

However, he pointed out that unlike PAS, the opposition coalition Harapan, which comprises PKR, DAP, Amanah and Bersatu, was established recently.

“Where is the money coming from for them to contest. I have asked, let them answer,” he added.

Hadi has filed a defamation suit in the UK against London-based Sarawak Report editor Clare Rewcastle-Brown for suggesting PAS received RM90 million from caretaker prime minister Najib Abdul Razak.

Recently, former PAS lawmaker Mahfuz Omar alleged that the Islamist party's central body received RM1.5 million and another RM1 million.

He claimed that the RM2.5 million was deposited into a trust account in Terengganu.

Responding to this, PAS central committee member Mohd Zuhdi Marzuki dismissed the claim that the sum originated from Umno.

He said the money was from an individual donor, whose identity he did not disclose.

Hadi and other PAS leaders have repeatedly denied that their party is colluding with Umno and aims to split votes for the opposition in favour of the ruling coalition.
