Dr Mahathir Mohamad's decision to use PKR's logo in the coming general election is another example of madness in opposition politics, according to Umno supreme council member Abdul Aziz Kaprawi.
He said this proved what the former premier had once said that “Melayu mudah lupa” (Malays forget easily).
Furthermore, he added that it also showed that Mahathir himself “mudah lupa.”
Aziz then recalled what had transpired in 1998, and the birth of the Reformasi movement following Mahathir's decision to sack PKR de facto leader Anwar Ibrahim as deputy premier.
“Malaysians must remember and learn something from history.
“PKR was formed to demand justice for Mahathir's cruelty towards Anwar. The source of PKR's hatred towards Umno-BN was Mahathir who was called a 'dictator', 'mahafiraun' (great pharaoh) and 'mahazalim' (most evil).
“This hatred sparked off the Reformasi demonstrations, which saw clashes between the demonstrators and police. Many took to the streets risking themselves to show their opposition towards Mahathir,” he added in a statement.
Therefore, Aziz claimed that PKR's decision to allow Mahathir to use their logo is a betrayal of this struggle.
“It is clear that PKR's objective is not justice, but to remain as a political animal willing to sacrifice anything in order to obtain political power.
“I feel pity seeing this mad political charade, the willingness to pawn your pride, especially Anwar's family who claimed to have suffered due to Mahathir's actions.
“(PKR president) Dr Wan Azizah Wan Ismail and (PKR vice-president) Nurul Izzah, you have accepted the man who fired and embarrassed your husband and father all over the world just for the sake of political power.
“Now, the PKR logo which symbolised the struggle against Mahathir has been given to the latter for his use. Opposition politics is indeed madness,” he added.
Harapan parties have resolved to use the PKR logo as their common logo for the coming general election.
