A pro-PAS NGO in Kelantan is organising a forum pitting Dr Mahathir Mohamad against analyst Kamarul Zaman Yusoff, after their encounter at another forum on Thursday became a viral sensation.

The forum in Pengkalan Chepa, Kelantan on Thursday, March 29 is titled "Is Mahathir qualified to be PM again", and uses a line from Mahathir's tweet "I'm here guys. Say it to my face" as its tagline.

Besides the duo, the forum is also set to feature Solidariti Anak Muda Malaysia (SAMM) founder Badrul Hisham Shaharin and Kelantan PAS Youth chief Ahmad Fadhli Shaari.

Badrul Hisham, better known as Chegubard, told Malaysiakini that he was informed by the organisers - Pertahan Kelantan - that a formal invitation had been sent to Mahathir.

Kamarul Zaman, meanwhile, said he will show up if Mahathir does too.

"I just gave a general agreement that I agree to attend if Mahathir agrees to attend too. This is in line with my earlier stand that I am not afraid to talk to his face, not as alleged," he said when contacted.

Mahathir's aide, however, informed Malaysiakini that he was unaware of the forum, and that the Pakatan Harapan chairperson already had scheduled appearances in Kedah that day.

The news portal is attempting to contact the forum organisers over the matter.

Kamarul Zaman, when told of Mahathir's prior engagement, said he was willing to meet Mahathir on a different date or location.

"I am very open... Anywhere will be ok with me. I don't have a problem to accept him as the future PM if he can give satisfactory answers to questions that I ask," the Universiti Utara Malaysia (UUM) professor said.

On Thursday, Mahathir had gatecrashed a forum that Kamarul Zaman was speaking at, on whether the nonagenarian was too old to be prime minister.

The encounter turned into a viral sensation, with one video alleging that Kamarul Zaman looked like he had "swallowed mothballs" after Mahathir arrived gaining over 2.5 million views. 

The video shows the UUM professor, who initially appeared to be confident and vociferous in his criticism of the former prime minister, purportedly squirming in his seat when Mahathir and his wife Dr Siti Hasmah Ali arrived and sat in the front row.

Kamarul Zaman had denied being intimidated by Mahathir's presence, pointing out that he had reminded the former premier of his frailty, and questioned him on his stances.
