The "official advisor" of the Federation of Peninsular Malay Students (GPMS) is currently serving a 15-year jail term in the Sungai Buloh prison for abuse of power and sodomy.

According to the structure chart at the official [#1]GPMS website[/#], the advisor for GPMS is none other than former deputy prime minister Anwar Ibrahim.

The front page of the website also says that the organisation was formed on August 15, 1948 under the patronage of Prime Minister Dr Mahathir Mohamad. Mahathir, however, only became prime minister in 1981.

When contacted by malaysiakini today, a staff of the organisation said that the website has been inactive since 1998 as they don't have a webmaster to maintain it.

GPMS is currently in the limelight over its 100-point demand to safeguard Malay special rights in a reaction to the 17-point election appeal by the Chinese umbrella organisation, Suqiu.

GPMS recently threatened to organise a gathering of 100,000 members at the Bukit Jalil stadium if Suqiu did not retract parts of its appeal that are deemed sensitive to other communities.

Former members

According to the GPMS website, the organisation was founded by five undergraduates from the Raffles College and King Edward Medical College in Singapore. The founding members include the late educationist Aminuddin Baki and Mahathir's wife Dr Siti Hasmah Mohd Ali.

The website also states that a number of prominent politicians were former members of this student body. They include Deputy Prime Minister Abdullah Ahmad Badawi, Suhakam chairman Musa Hitam, and former Information Minister Mohamad Rahmat.

Others include PRM president Dr Syed Husin Ali, educationist Awang Had Salleh and writers Sultan Shahril Lembang and Hashim Amir Hamzah.
