Felda today announced that it has regained the prime piece of land in Jalan Semarak, Kuala Lumpur, which was previously allegedly sold via "dubious" means to Synergy Promenade Sdn Bhd (SPSB). 

Felda, in a statement, said that the police reports lodged on the matter, however, will not be withdrawn. 

"The forensic audit will also proceed to find out if any wrongdoing had taken place in the land transaction. 

"Although the transfer of land ownership was only known to the public on Dec 21, 2017, the fact is, Felda had as early as Jan 2017, taken measures to get back the transferred land," said the statement. 

The move comes as the police are expected to submit their investigation papers to the Attorney-General's Chambers this week.

On Jan 5, former Felda chairperson Isa Samad had his statement recorded by the Bukit Aman police's Commercial Crime Department for several hours.

The probe is being conducted under Section 420 of the Penal Code for cheating.

The statement of listed the measures taken by Felda to regain the land - including registering a Private Caveat and Registrar's Caveat on 16 lots of the transferred land on April 14, Dec 26 and Dec 28, 2017, respectively. Two police reporters were also lodged on Dec 12 and 28.

"Following these measures by Felda, today (Jan 15, 2018), the developer (SPSB) voluntarily agreed to return the ownership of the 16 lots of land to Felda, without any cost, and also surrendered all documents pertaining to the land to facilitate its transfer of ownership back to Felda," said the statement. 

According to the statement further, the Kuala Lumpur Vertical City (KLVC) project at the plot of land will proceed and Felda will negotiate with SPSB to see if the deal for the development project can be upgraded any further. 

"Felda will also ensure that all processes pertaining to the return of the land, and other projects in the KLVC project, will follow good corporate governance and procedures. 

Last month, Berita Harian reported that Felda was at risk of losing ownership of the prime plot of land on Jalan Semarak, estimated to be worth RM200 million, when it was believed to have been transferred through an allegedly "dubious deal" in 2015.

Following the expose, the Umno-linked Malay daily then reported that the value of the four land parcels in question may actually be worth four times more than what Felda had sold it for.

Following the scandal, Persatuan Anak Peneroka Felda Kebangsaan (Anak) chairperson Mazlan Aliman called for Prime Minister Najib Razak to be made “jointly accountable” for the problems currently faced by Felda, as the man responsible for appointing Isa Samad to head the Felda at the time.
