The number of victims in three flood-affected districts in dropped drastically to 289 people from 68 families at 3pm today, resulting in the closure of seven flood relief centres.

State Health, Environment, Education and Information Committee chairperson Ayub Rahmat said there were 1,360 evacuees from 371 families at 13 relief centres in the morning.

However, due to improving weather, seven relief centres in Mersing were closed at 2.30 pm, leaving six centres still in operation.

The seven centres are SK Tenglu, Sekolah Kebangsaan Air Papan, SA Pengkalan Batu, SA Mersing Kanan, Balairaya Kampung Air Merah and Balairaya Kampung Benaung, Ayub said in a statement here today.

The flood situation in Pahang is also improving slightly with the number of flood evacuees still at relief centres reduced to 1,078 people at noon today from 1,506 people in the morning.

According to the Social Welfare Department’s flood portal, Pekan recorded 1,015 evacuees at seven relief centres at noon, from 1,212 people in the morning.

In Rompin, 63 people are still at the relief centre at SK Tekek, from 294 people at four relief centres in the morning.
