In the 9.15 pm incident, R Balasubramian was on his way to the Kg Pasir village community hall when a gunman, wearing a full-faced helmet, fired several shots at him and escaped on a motorcycle.
The Kg Pasir MIC Youth chief was then rushed to the Seremban Hospital but was pronounced dead later.
Balasubramiam, who worked as a cremator, leaves behind a widow and three young children.
According to a Bernama report, the motive for the attack has yet to be established and the police are investigating the case under Section 302 of the Penal Code for murder.
Zazali said the police found four casings of .9 mm bullets at the scene of the incident.
Balasubramiam, a taekwando black-belt holder, was on his way to the hall to meet other taekwando trainees.
Contacted today, Negeri Sembilan MIC chairperson T Rajagopalu said the deceased was a 'good and active youth leader'.
He said Balasubramaniam had been leading a new youth brigade in the area.
"They have taekwondo practice every evening, and the youths there are very saddened by the incident," he added
Asked if the incident could be related to party rivalry, he said the motive is still unclear.
