I agree with the letter 'Please treat everyone the same'. The five percent housing discount for bumiputeras is illogical. It is not significant enough to make a difference. Is a RM475,000 house more affordable than a RM500,000 house? Not to a bus driver or factory worker. This discount is but a token to help the homeless.

The price of houses are far too expensive in Malaysia. The wealthy elite buy up more than one to sell at a higher price. This is speculation and should be stopped. How is it that the prices of houses in Malaysia are nearly the same as Europe despite the fact that we use slave migrant labour and on top of that, property developers spend barely anything on workers' safety and insurance.

The government is not committed to ensuring better housing opportunities. Why is it that first time home owners pay the same price and interest rate as multiple home owners? Then there is the Real Property Gains Tax which is far too low and chargeable only in he first few years.

What message does this send out - that speculation in the property market is acceptable? And what is the purpose of the Real Estate Investment Trust Fund other than to push property prices out of the range of low income earners.

The government continues to come up with brain-childs that hurt the poor the most. An example is the Amanah Saham state unit trusts which were created to help poor bumiputeras. Yet, most poor bumiputeras ended up selling their shares at a quarter of its value because they needed the money for their children's wedding, education, motorcycle etc.

Of course, the rich bumiputeras were able to hold on and only sold when the price was reset back to the original RM1.00 per share many years later.

Sadly, the government claims to champion poor bumiputeras. But their ill-thought ideas or well thought deceptions, whichever way you think it as, really only benefits the already rich.
