I agree with Enterprise M's comment that the demolition of Subang airport terminal building was totally unnecessary. In fact, we could have continued to use Subang - and not build the KLIA - by adding a Terminal 4 and a second runway.

In the late 1980s, 600 acres of leasehold land (with about 20 years left) next to the Subang Airport was in the market for RM31,000 per acre. But out of these 600 acres, 400 acres had been earmarked earlier for the second runway.

Only those close to the government dared to purchase the land as only they would have had advance knowledge that Subang would be relocated.

The new owners of the land turned it into a resort-style housing community where bungalow plots were sold starting from RM26 per square foot. And meanwhile, my foreign friends gawked at Putrajaya and KLIA and wondered how Malaysia could afford them...
