Drop your arrogance and allow alliance talks to proceed, PKR leaders told
Drop your arrogance and allow talks to form alliance proceed, said PKR Youth deputy chief Dr Afif Bahardin.
Speaking to Malaysiakini, the Seberang Jaya assemblyperson reminded party comrades who stood in the way of PKR deputy president Mohamed Azmin Ali's bid to court PAS that their sole goal remains to defeat Umno and BN, and to achieve that, the opposition would have to avoid three-cornered fights at all costs.
"Pakatan Harapan is not in power yet. We cannot be so arrogant that we cannot talk to certain quarters.
"As leaders who aspire to seize Putrajaya, we must show that we are able to talk to everyone. If we can work together with former prime minister Dr Mahathir Mohamad to save Malaysia, why not with PAS?" Afif asked...
If we can work together with former prime minister Dr Mahathir Mohamad to save Malaysia, why not with PAS?" Afif asked.
Those who are against the opposition forming alliances, and thus, leading to its break up and defeat in the general election, are akin to being BN agents, he added.
Afif recalled how PKR lost in every three-cornered fight it faced.
"We lost in a three-cornered fight with Parti Sosialis Malaysia in Semenyih, what more with PAS? So, why do we need a dateline to talk to PAS?" he asked.
He was referring to PKR's Sungai Petani MP Johari Abdul's statement that the deadline for PKR's talks with PAS on possible cooperation for the coming 14th general election should be one or two weeks after Hari Raya Aidiladha, which falls on Sept 1.
The Islamist party severed ties with former ally PKR during its muktamar earlier this year.
PKR Selayang MP William Leong also quit the party's political bureau to protest the party’s continued talks with PAS, saying he can no longer defend the position of wanting to work with the Islamist party.
Afif pointed out how PKR de facto leader Anwar Ibrahim had said that cooperation with PAS was necessary and had even sent a letter to PAS, saying so.
'Watch Game of Thrones'
Afif urged party leaders to not forget that BN and Umno's strategy of destroying the opposition was by allowing three-cornered fights.
He said that every war strategy book urges leaders to form strong alliances and political pacts when facing a battle.
"We must gather everyone on our side to win the war. Just watch the 'Game of Thrones' to see how important allies are.
"Those who do not agree with one-to-one fights only endorse BN and Umno's strategy to break up the opposition, so they can continue ruling," Afif added.
