Isa Samad released on bail as remand expires

Former Federal Land Authority (Felda) chairperson Mohd Isa Abdul Samad was released from custody today after his five-day remand period expired.

This is after he was allowed bail of RM150,000 with two sureties, and a personal bond to pay a further RM350,000 if he jumps bail

Isa was arrested by the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) on Aug 15 to facilitate investigations, which is reportedly about Felda subsidiary Felda Investment Corporation’s (FIC) purchase of two hotels – one in London and one in Kuching.

He was held under Section 16 of the MACC Act 2009, which deals with the receiving of gratification. Following his arrest, the agency had reportedly raided his houses and offices, and seized RM100,000 in cash from his safe at home.

It is understood the prosecution did not request an extension of Isa’s remand...
