No areas in the country are in the 'unhealthy' air level, according to the Air Pollutant Index (API) recorded at 11am today.

A statement from the Department of Environment (DOE) revealed that in the past 24 hours, the air quality in 28 areas was at the 'moderate' level while it was 'good' in another 23 areas.

Up to 11am today, Prai, Bayan Lepas, Butterworth, Ipoh and Subang recorded the 6km visibility while Alor Star, Petaling Jaya, Lubok Merbau, Melaka, Batu Pahat, Kluang and Senai were in the visibility of 8-9km.

"The visibility at other areas was good with a visibility of 10km," it said.

Thick clouds

The statement added that the satellite report from the Asean Specialised Meteorological Centre yesterday has identified 11 hot spots in North Sumatra and 32 hot spots in Kalimantan. Most of these areas were covered by thick clouds.

"Sixty hot spots have been recorded in Pahang. There were also 25 hot spots in Sabah including Sandakan, Pendalaman and Kudat while 14 hot spots were found at Miri, Sarawak," it said.

When contacted, a DOE officer said the department is still scrutinizing the situation and has yet to ascertain whether the haze will return in the coming days.
