A Perak Barisan Nasional (BN) politician who threatened to punch an opposition leader during an argument over a motion on the haze crisis was today told to apologise.

In a statement, DAP Youth condemned Kampung Gajah state assemblyperson Tajudin Rahman for behaving in an 'uncivilised, irrational and unlawful' manner.
At the state assembly sitting on Monday, Tajuddin had reportedly threatened DAP Pantai Remis state assemblyperson and DAP Youth chief Nga Kor Ming (photo) with physical harm when the duo argued over the rejected motion.
The row erupted when the BN politician called Nga 'budak kecik' (small boy) to which the latter retorted 'orang tua' (old man).
Tajuddin then labelled Nga as 'kurang ajar' (rude), which the led the opposition leader to dismiss him as 'bodoh' (stupid).
An enraged Tajuddin then asked Nga whether he believes that he would punch him and the latter, who was seated several seats away said, 'mari sini' (come here).
As Tajuddin tried to approach Nga, he was restrained by other assemblypersons.
Tarnished image
"Tajuddin has tarnished the good image of the state legislative assembly," said DAP Youth national publicity secretary Lau Weng San in the statement.
"Never in the history of the state assembly has a state assemblyperson been threatened with physical harm by another state assemblyperson," he added.
The motion, which led to the heated exchanged, was tabled by Nga. He wanted the state government to reveal the measures employed to tackle the haze.
The motion also requested the state government to demand an apology from Indonesia.
According to media reports, Perak Menteri Besar Tajol Rosli Ghazali responded, ruling out asking for an apology on the grounds that it will affect bilateral ties.
However, the menteri besar was silent on the government's plan to tackle the haze.
Dissatisfied with the answer, Nga became embroiled in an exchange of words with Tajol and this led Tajuddin to intervene.
Nga later lodged a police report on the same day with the Ipoh district police headquarters whereas the BN politician could not be reached for comment.
