The Registrar of Societies (ROS), which DAP accused of dragging its feet in dealing with the party’s leadership re-election, finally wrote to the opposition party last week.

"They asked us to do certain things and they asked us to reply with certain responses," DAP legal bureau chief Gobind Singh Deo said when met at the High Court in Kuala Lumpur today.

"We are in the process of completing our responses and we will issue the letter to ROS today," Gobind said.

There is no problem for the party to meet the request of ROS, he added.

In its letter, he said, DAP would deal with the issue of the re-election of its central executive committee (CEC), the appointment of observers and the list of delegates.

Gobind said the party would issue a media statement later, detailing the requests made by ROS.

DAP first held its election for the 2013-2016 term of the CEC on Dec 15, 2012.

However, there were concerns over the legitimacy of the new leadership election due to an excel sheet error, prompting the DAP to hold a re-election on Sept 29, 2013.

On July 7, almost four years after the re-election, ROS announced to the DAP that its repeat election was also invalid.

ROS claimed that there were qualified delegates who were not allowed to vote, as well as those who were not qualified to vote.

DAP denied this, claiming that ROS' decision was based on "fake news" but said it would still hold another re-election to safeguard the party's legality.

DAP secretary-general Lim Guan Eng also said that the party intends to sue the ROS for its four-year-old decision.
