Rapid KL, the operators of the newly launched Mass Rapid Transit (MRT) service, have denied allegations that some token vending machines at the Sungai Buloh station were faulty, resulting in lengthy queues.

In a statement today, Rapid KL said that all vending machines at the station were in working order and that the long queues were the result of a surge in weekend commuters.

This has resulted in some vending machines running out of tokens which needed to be replenished.

"(It was a result of) a surge of commuters and due to the overwhelming response for the MRT service. The rakyat has come out from out of Klang Valley to enjoy the special experience riding on the MRT.

"We are indeed humbled and honoured by their overwhelming support... We would like to record our highest appreciation and thanks for the support," the company said.

The company also advised commuters to use travel cards instead of buying tokens from the machines to beat the queue.

"It is not just more convenient, it will also allow commuters to save as well. More importantly, you do not need to queue at the machines and save more time.

"So, use the cashless system," said the company.

Earlier today, Segambut MP Lim Lip Eng posted several photographs on his Facebook page which he claims depicted long queues and angry commuters as a result of the allegedly faulty token machines.
