Our current haze is not a new story. The current air quality has affected my entire family and three of my children are in hospital. The haze is having a severe impact on the nation's health and economy.

More people are on medical leave and productivity is affected. People are depressed. Everyone is stuck indoors. There are no outdoor activities. It seems more tourists are leaving to Australia to avoid the haze.

The Indonesian government has always said that it is doing something to try and minimise the problem but unfortunately even a blind man can feel that their government has failed. Talk of reducing harm to Asean neighbours has remained just that - talk.

It is time that people in the affected countries stand up and demand their right to good quality air. It is time that Indonesia should think about compensating the Malaysian people for the misery that we have to go through because of their folly.

The Malaysian public should consider taking the Indonesian government to court and fight for compensation. The irresponsible action of the people and government of Indonesia must be made accountable.

The problem with Malaysian government is that it is too diplomatic. We, therefore, cannot leave this matter to the Malaysian government. I urge all NGOs and individuals to start filing civil suits against the Indonesian government on this matter.

We can no longer sit down and listen to politicians who promise to do something about the haze. An apology from the Indonesian government is hardly sufficient. What is the point of apologising every year when they still continue to burn and clear their land for plantations?

To the Indonesian government, I have only one thing to say - you don't mean what you say. Your government is an absolute failure in managing this problem. Me, my children and the Malaysian public deserve a better quality of air. Pay us for damaging our environment.
