Sungai Pinang state assemblyperson Teng Chang Khim has been suspended for six months for throwing a copy of the Standing Orders into a rubbish bin in the state assembly at its April sitting.

The suspension was announced today by Deputy Speaker Mohamad Satim Diman following a meeting of the Privileges and Special Powers Committee.

Teng, currently serving a five-day sitting suspension for his action, would be stripped of his allowances and privileges during the six months.

On April 25, the DAP legislator threw a copy of the Standing Orders into a rubbish bin following an argument with Speaker Onn Ismail who rejected his motion of no confidence against Selangor Menteri Besar Dr Mohd Khir Toyo.

Teng claimed that Khir had mismanaged state affairs and brought up allegations of a land scam in Kampung Perapat, indiscriminate development around Bukit Cahaya agriculture park and exco-village in Section 7, Shah Alam.

According to a report in the Star yesterday, the committee wants to make him "pay" by requesting an apology from him.

The committee would inform the Sultan of Selangor of its proposed punishment to the opposition leader.

Teng said this afternoon that he would meet the press in Klang tomorrow to clarify the matter.
