DAP lawmaker Teresa Kok has denied involvement in the Jerusalem Jubilee celebration, which was slated to take place in Malacca.

This morning, the Seputeh MP filed a report with the Sri Petaling police station over claims on social media linking her to the event.

“I have no clue about this programme. I wish to stress that I am not involved in organising this programme, nor do I have any intention of attending it,” she said in a media statement.

Kok believes that the fake news regarding her involvement in the celebration is aimed at tarnishing the image of DAP and her reputation.

“It is sad that certain quarters are deliberately spreading lies and fake news about me in the month of Ramadan.

“This is not the first time that I have been slandered during the month of Ramadan,” she said, citing similar campaigns against her in 2008 and 2013.

Kok urged the police and Malaysian Communication and Multimedia Commission (MCMC) to investigate the matter.

Yesterday, Deputy Prime Minister Ahmad Zahid Hamidi ordered the police to ban the Jerusalem Jubilee gathering scheduled to be hosted from June 15 to 18.

Zahid, who is also home minister, said that the rally would only hurt the Muslims if it was allowed to be held.

"When the sentiments of Muslims are affected and their feelings offended, I as home minister order the police to ban the meeting.

“This is a message that is loud and clear. Whoever is organising the Jerusalem Jubilee, your permit has been cancelled under my official directive," he added.

The planned celebration also drew criticism from various quarters.
