The three PAS executive council members (excos) in the Selangor state government will retain their positions until the next general election, said the Selangor Sultan Sharafuddin Idris Shah.

"After taking in consideration of all aspects, especially from the aspect of the Selangor state administration's stability and to preserve the wellbeing of the rakyat as a whole, and after discussing with Selangor Menteri Besar Mohamed Azmin Ali, (Sultan Sharafuddin) has concurred with Azmin's wishes and deigned to maintain the three excos from PAS in the state exco until the next general election," the Selangor ruler's private secretary Mohamad Munir Bani said in a statement today.

He added that the ruler also took into account the mandate given to this current administration by the rakyat to continue to govern the state.

This decision, he said, comes after Sultan Sharafuddin met separately with Azmin as well as the Selangor PAS commissioner Sallehen Mukhyi and the three PAS excos.

The sultan also called upon the public not to start any negative speculation about the stability of the Selangor state government.

He hopes in this month of Ramadan, the people of Selangor will avoid throwing false accusations, according to his private secretary.

'Loyalty to the leader is essential'

In a separate statement, Sallehen noted the Selangor ruler's decision as well as PKR's decision.

"From the beginning, when the Pakatan Rakyat government received the rakyat's mandate in May 2013, Selangor PAS has remained steadfast and loyal to all the menteris besar, as deigned by the Selangor sultan," he said.

From when Abdul Khalid Ibrahim was Selangor menteri besar to Azmin, Sallehen said Selangor PAS believes loyalty to the leader is essential in maintaining political stability and the rakyat's trust.

He reiterated that the decision by the PAS syura council to sever all political cooperation with PKR was with regards to the elections and not about state administrations.

Selangor PAS will work hard and continue to prove their loyalty to the menteri besar, as what is most important is the rakyat's wellbeing and the state's political stability, he said.

"PAS will continue to use the culture of healthy and mature politics in facing future situations.

"Politicking politely, rationally and not emotionally is a must to ensure a stable government.

"For those who constantly say rude things, who are jealous of Selangor government's success and who are exploiting the situation to cause political conflict in Selangor, they should take the Selangor sultan's words to heart," Sallehen said.

On May 11, the PAS syura council decided to sever all political cooperation with PKR, following a motion that was approved during the PAS muktamar earlier in the month.

Azmin had before this remained coy about the fate of PAS in the Selangor state government.
