A former PKR senator said his party should relinquish political appointments in PAS-led Kelantan following the divorce between the two parties.

This was amid calls for PAS to resign from political-appointed positions in PKR-led Selangor, including positions in the Selangor exco, local council and government-linked companies.

"If we want to see PAS instruct their leaders to resign from political appointments in Selangor, PKR should make the first move to show that we are principled in the context of serving the people," Saiful Izham Ramli told Malaysiakini.

PKR leaders hold the position of coordinators within constituencies that are traditionally contested by the party in Kelantan.

Saiful Izham said PKR can serve the people regardless of the positions granted by the PAS-led Kelantan government.

"For me, with or without positions, we can still perform our duties and responsibilities for the people.

"The positions are just temporary, more so that they are by appointment," he said.

He added that a principled party should not use the name of the people or the sultan as an excuse to cling on to positions.

He pointed out that the appointed positions were not elected by the people.

"We don't need to quarrel, move on, let the people decide who will take care of their future in the 14th general election," he said.

Yesterday, Kelantan Deputy Menteri Besar Mohd Amar Nik Abdullah was quoted as saying by Harakahdaily that he did not intend to sack PKR coordinators for state and parliamentary constituencies in Kelantan.

However, he said the positions will only last until the next general election.

Last Thursday, the PAS syura council formally endorsed the party's muktamar decision to sever ties with PKR but left the decision on PAS' position in the Selangor government to the central committee.

Selangor PAS commission Sallehen Mukhyi insisted that PAS will remain in the PKR-led Selangor government in the interest of the people, despite the severing of ties with PKR.
