Even with the release of the APs list and the fact that there are two kinds of APs, what else do we really know? All the talk about the AP kings, the uneven distributions and the amount of money made are again mere speculation.

Is each AP really worth RM30,000 to RM40,00 to the holder? Are all APs freely tradeable? Are APs really meant only for bumiputeras with the sole aim of providing opportunities for them in the automotive sector?

Or, as Rafidah pointed out, is 30 percent reserved for the non-bumis? Already there is some questioning as to why there are no Indian Malaysians among the AP holders.

What do we really know about the APs and how they are dished out? For me, I would be interested to know the following:

  • What were the original aims and objectives of having APs? Have there been changes since? If yes, what were they and their reasons.
  • Apart from open APs and franchise APs, are there any more types of APs? Are all forms of APs tradeable?

  • What is the criteria for the selection of AP holders? Why are some given open APs and others franchise APs and some given both?

  • Once the holders are provided with the APs, how are they meant to be utilised?

  • How is the proper utilisation of these APs by their holders monitored? Or is there no monitoring once given?

  • Has the AP scheme achieved the aims and objectives it was meant for?

  • How do these APs affect the performance and the future of Proton?

  • Will removal or proper distribution of these APs result in Proton becoming a better national car maker?

  • Will the resignation of the minister concerned help clear up the present mess?

    • Unless the minister concerned and the government chooses to be truly transparent and accountable over the entire AP issue, we will continue to talk, speculate and rumour monger.

    People, don't you now see the need for us to have a Malaysian Freedom of Information Act?
