Former Sabah chief minister Osu Sukam has been requested to explain to Sabah Umno the court case on his RM7.14 million gambling debt.

Sabah Umno deputy chairperson Shafie Apdal told Bernama today that the party will discuss the matter after hearing his explanation and then make suggestion to the Umno disciplinary board.
"Sabah Umno has no power to decide on the case. What we can do is to provide suggestions. This is the normal procedure so that the decision taken will not pose problems to Umno," he said.
Osu, who is currently Papar Umno chief, is being sued by the Ritz Hotel Casino Ltd and RHC Ltd in London to recover RM7.14 million in gambling debt from him.
Shafie said Osu is expected to attend the next state Umno liaison committee meeting as he has to explain how he accumulated the huge debt.
The state Umno liaison committee is expected to meet soon after Sabah Chief Minister Musa Aman, who is also State Umno chief, returns from overseas on July 16.
Institutional failure
Prime Minister Abdullah Ahmad Badawi had criticised Osu for failing as a leader who is expected to show good moral values and qualities.
Abdullah who is also Umno president said a leader must not be involved in activities which were immoral and prohibited by the religion and those which could tarnish his image and credibility.
Meanwhile, Opposition leader Lim Kit Siang said in a statement today that the Anti-Corruption Agency should launch a full-scale investigation into how Osu could accumulate the astronomical wealth after his political retirement.
"This is to ascertain why there was not only the human failure of a person, but even more serious, the institutional failure of a system of integrity, such as the code of conduct and declaration of assets by the Sabah chief minister to the prime minister," he added.
