What’s next? A public demonstration of amputation?
YOURSAY | ‘Such punishment is not something that will satisfy God, but our own base desire.’
Kelantan mulls public caning demonstration
Anonymous#007: And the lies and deception continue. Now Abdul Hadi Awang/PAS/Umno/BN want to impose public caning by calling it a “demonstration”.
What’s next? A demonstration of public amputation, public stoning, and public hanging?
Anonymous #44199885: This is not just about a punishment that is demeaning to a human being, it is about whether the social conditions exist for fair treatment of all.
If there are inequalities in society, obviously those who are desperate will attempt to or will commit acts to survive. We can’t be punishing and humiliating them and their whole family.
We are an Asian society that is very conservative in many ways, we should be mindful that the offender is given a chance to repent and change without having his/her reputation and that of the family being brought to ridicule and contempt, not only in this generation but future generations as well.
PAS should be more focussed on compassion and not on inflicting pain, suffering and humiliation. The latter is not something that will satisfy God, but our own base desire.
Worldly Wise: How will women be caned? A married woman is presumed guilty if she is pregnant and the husband denies he is responsible for the baby.
The male adulterer gets off scot-free because the woman's evidence allegedly carries half the weight of the male's. There are in the aggregate probably more proscriptions against females than against men.
Vijay47: Coming from a PAS leader, this proposal is rather surprising but I can understand how it can be enlightening, especially to non-Muslims who are confused by the opposition and cannot see the beauty of public caning.
I am sure that caning is not meant to punish but to demonstrate love, caring, and a spiritual guide to bring sinners back to the fold.
Following this, PAS can also hold a demonstration on stoning and on the refined art of selecting the right stone texture and size, including the correct angle at which the projectiles should be released.
In case the party is looking for candidates who are dying to participate, many in Putrajaya or Pekan would be keen to volunteer or at least will abundantly qualify.
PAS can also again declare a public holiday for both events. Hadi will be chairing the celebration and I am sure a good time will be had by all.
Non-Muslims are welcome. Bring the family.
Group hopes memo will turn Gobind into a Muslim, support Act 355
Anonymous#007: All right-thinking intelligent Malaysians know that the Act 355 amendments are in breach of Malaysia's secular constitution, which is the supreme law of Malaysia, and that it is Hadi/PAS/Umno/BN's malicious plan to pave the way for syariah to ultimately, and illegally, override the country’s constitution.
Shame on you for asking, indeed threatening, a patriotic citizen and leader like Gobind Singh Deo to go against our constitution.
Gerard Lourdesamy: Why is Mais (Selangor Islamic Religious Council) and Jais (Selangor Islamic Religious Department) allowing the Al-Husna Mosque in Puchong to be used for political speeches?
The Sultan of Selangor has earlier decreed that mosques and suraus cannot be used for political functions and purposes.
Did the speakers at the mosque have the requisite ‘tauliah’ from Jais to make such speeches after the Friday prayers?
As an MP, Gobind knows how to vote when the Act 355 amendment bill is tabled in Parliament. He represents all the constituents in Puchong and not just PAS-aligned voters.
More importantly, his overriding duty is to protect and defend the constitution and the rule of law, which he as an MP has sworn to uphold.
Budak SRJK (C): I doubt the 50 protesters have the support of the majority of Muslim voters in Puchong.
Right-thinking Muslims will know what is good and what is not good for them, as well as for their family members and friends and, not forgetting, for this multi-racial, multi-religious and multi-cultural nation.
This so-called RUU355 is merely a continuum of the creeping Islamisation/Talibanisation that has increasingly blighted this nation since the 1980s.
The Fog of Life: Islam is "intended" to co-exist with modernity (otherwise how would it function in today's age?) but not for certain groups who are threatened by the 21st century.
The world is a very complex place and far from perfect, but the answer is not to take us all back 500 years.
What has hardline religious doctrines achieved anywhere in this world? Jihadist groups have delivered nothing but misery, destruction and untold suffering.
The suggestion of a public demonstration of caning in Kelantan is perhaps an indication of where this slippery slope could lead to.
Anonymous 2419401464142136: Himpunan Ummah leader Masridzi Sat can even say that he hoped Gobind would convert to Islam.
Imagine if someone from another religion said he/she hopes someone would convert from Islam to another religion - all hell would break loose (but only in Malaysia, though).
Lamborghini: "If he doesn't support the Act 355 amendments, then Muslim votes for him will be gone," Himpunan Ummah chairperson Aminuddin Yahaya.
True God's laws don't need human intimidation and threats. Humans need God's help, not God needs human help to get His laws passed. So, it is clear it is just Hadi's law, not God's law.
Anonymous 444981488553970: The law cannot make a person righteous. It can only show what is expected of a person and condemns the person when he breaks the law.
