A Gerakan leader has questioned DAP veteran Lim Kit Siang's call for Johor Menteri Besar Khaled Nordin to go on leave pending a corruption investigation into land matters in the state.

The same rule must apply to Lim's son, Penang Chief Minister Lim Guan Eng, Gerakan Youth chief Tan Keng Liang said today.

“What about your son? Why he doesn't go on leave despite corruption trial in court? How?” Tan tweeted.

Last June, Guan Eng was charged with two counts of corruption, for which he claimed trial and blamed his political rivals.

The first charge is on abusing his power to benefit himself and his wife by approving the re-zoning of a plot of land to Magnificient Emblem Sdn Bhd, and the second charge is related to him purchasing a bungalow, at 25, Jalan Pinhorn, from Phang Li Khoon at below its market value.

Meanwhile, Khaled's press secretary, Mohd Asri Khalbi, referred to Johor ruler Sultan Ibrahim Sultan Iskandar's recent remarks telling politicians from outside the state to mind their own business.

“Lim should just focus on taking care of his constituency (Gelang Patah in Johor), just like what the menteri besar had said after visiting the constituency,” Asri told Malaysiakini.

Lim had urged Khaled to go on leave as land matters ultimately rest under his purview, with regard to the case in which bumiputera housing lots were converted to non-bumiputera lots in the state.

The Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) has arrested six people, including the the son and special officer to Johor executive councillor Abdul Latif Bandi over the matter.

Twenty-one luxury cars, five high performance bikes and RM500,000 in cash were seized, while 45 accounts with over RM15.5 million in them were frozen.

Abdul Latif is currently on leave pending investigations.

Lim also argued that Khaled, as menteri besar, could not have been unaware that Abdul Latif’s son was living well beyond his means.
