Parti Amanah Negara has dismissed news reports that Pakatan Harapan and Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia have finalised their seat negotiations in Selangor without PAS.

Both Amanah communications director Khalid Samad and Selangor DAP chairperson Tony Pua said Harapan and Bersatu have yet to negotiate seat allocations for the 22 parliamentary seats and 56 state seats in the state.

"This (speculation) is very dubious. I believe this is BN's propaganda to upset PAS and to drive the final nail into the coffin over the negotiation between Pakatan Harapan and PAS," Khalid told Malaysiakini.

The best scenario for BN would be to join force with PAS in the coming general election to reclaim Selangor, he said, while the second best for BN would be three-cornered fights between BN, PAS and Harapan or Bersatu.

The Shah Alam parliamentarian, however admitted a joint technical committee has been set up between Harapan allies and Bersatu to discuss seat negotiations nationwide among themselves, without PAS.

"The committee may not have met," he said, adding Amanah election director Hatta Ramli sits on the committee.

Khalid was responding to BN Backbenchers Club (BNBBC) portal which quoted a source as claiming that Pakatan Harapan made plans for seat allocations in Selangor without PAS

How I wish it was true

The report claimed that PKR, DAP, Parti Amanah Negara (Amanah) and Parti Pribumi Bersatu (Bersatu) have agreed to the seats allocated to the respective parties.

However, the portal claimed this has been kept secret from PAS as the Islamic party was appearing to be vague about working with the opposition coalition.

"How I wish the news was true. Both Amanah and Bersatu should sit down and finalise the seat negotiations. We have to decide now," said Khalid.

"And, we can keep the door open for PAS. We can always re-open the negotiation," he said.

Of the 56 state seats in Selangor, the BNBBC report said that PKR and DAP have been allocated 18 and 15 seats respectively.

Whereas, the seats contested by PAS previously have been divided between Amanah and Bersatu. Amanah is being allocated 14 seats and Bersatu nine.

On this, Khalid said Amanah, being an equal partner in the coalition, should be able to contest four to six parliamentary seats and 10 to 14 state seats.

He, however said the seats negotiation should be subject to winnability and interest of the respective party and that Amanah is open to discussion.

Even if PAS agrees to join Harapan and Bersatu in Selangor, he said the Islamic party would not be able to contest 21 state seats as in the 2013 general election.

"We would have five parties then, obviously have to be downsized," he said.

No rush in seats negotiation

Meanwhile, Pua said Harapan and Bersatu would not be able to enter seat negotiations talks without first deciding on the cooperation issue with PAS.

"They have not even resolved the issue on cooperation, how can we talk about seats negotiation?" said the DAP Petaling Jaya Utara MP.

"We can talk about seat negotiations just before the election. There is no rush in doing that," he added.

PAS was determined not to work with any political party  which has ties with DAP and Amanah.

PAS would review its ties with PKR and decide if it should continue to stay in the Selangor state government with Harapan in the coming muktamar.
