Dr Musa Mohd Nordin has written a good letter albeit an incomplete one in response to Artemis Tower and Product of the System. And, rightly so.

A letter is not meant to be an exhaustive treatise. It merely deals with a facet, a particular angle that irks or touches the writer. Its purpose is merely to highlight some symptoms. Writing from where he stands as an 'outsider' to the system or one who has merely passed through its corridors, he cannot be expected to know all the ills that besiege the system.

It's much like the patient who has a chest discomfort - he would not know he has an enlarged heart, traceable to hypertensive stress and a chronic diabetic condition. The patient relates the symptoms, the good doctor empirically analyses the findings and makes a detailed prognosis.

Hence, I commend the good, dispassionate discourse. What counts in solving problems is allowing the 'patients' or 'victims' to speak their minds, to relate their symptoms. The 'good doctor' somewhere (the establishment) will have to carefully list the symptoms and understand the 'disease' before prescribing a cure.

There are no cure-all solutions, only a thousand and one interpretative criteria. Necessarily so, because value judgments and political overtones are invariably subjective. I wouldn't label one letter as racist polemics and calling another parochial bigotry nor would I support the use of inflammatory and shoddy language that belies inadequate thinking.

So, in the interests of understanding the symptoms, I pray more Artemis Towers, more Dr Musa Mohd Nordins and more Product of the Systems will relate their individual malaise and the ways they have suffered or the way they understand the symptoms and cures.

There is a 'good doctor' somewhere who will make a careful and objective dissection of the problem (mostly subjective) and take a middle-of-the road approach to untying the knots that have been so twisted by years of neglect and incompetence.

The common goal is to produce a dignified generation of Towering Malaysians tempered by a shared endurance and bound by strands of justice and peaceableness.
