Johor crown prince Tunku Ismail Ibrahim will be contesting for the president's post of Football Association of Malaysia (FAM) at its 53rd congress on March 25.

This was announced by FAM secretary-general Hamidin Mohd Amin in a press conference at Wisma FAM, Kelana Jaya today.

Tunku Ismail will go up against Umno information chief Annuar Musa, who had on Feb 6 submitted his nomination form.

Hamidin said Tunku Ismail confirmed that he has accepted the nomination, in a meeting several days ago.

FAM received only two nominations for the presidency as at the deadline for nominations at 5pm today, he said.

"Candidates for the other positions will be announced after the FAM exco meeting on Feb 20," he said.

Others nominated for the president's post were Youth and Sport Minister Khairy Jamaluddin and former Home Ministry secretary-general Aseh Che Mat, but both withdrew from the race.

Khairy earlier said he will not contest if Tunku Ismail is running for the post.
